The Hart-Celler Act

The Hart-Celler Act, officially the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, abolished the discriminatory national origins quotas that favored Northern and Western European immigrants. Instead, it established a system prioritizing family reunification and skills-based immigration. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed it into law on October 3, 1965.

Join us for our special Centennial celebration on June 4, 2025! IINE is marking 100 years of life-changing support for refugees and immigrants in Boston.
